Following is a list of the references, Internet and otherwise, that I used to provide context and color to the stories of Florence's life.

4. McGann, Susan. "Eva Luckes, A Great Maker of Matrons," The Battle of the Nurses: A Study of Eight Women who influenced the Development of Professional Nursing, 1880–1930. (London: Scutari, 1992), pp. 9–34 (Detailed description of the nurse training at The London Hospital and of Matron Luckes)

7. The British Journal of Nursing Supplement, May 22, 1915, p. 455 (Announcement of Florence passing CMB examination); accessed via http://rcnarchive.rcn.org.uk/
For those interested in nursing history and/or The London Hospital, I would highly recommend the 2008-09 BBC television series, The London Hospital (called Casualty-1907 and Casualty-1909 in Britain). The show is set in The London Hospital and every case and character based on real cases, characters and events taken from hospital records, nurses' Ward Diaries, and intimate personal memoirs.
