About Me
My name is Terri Jensen and I live in Laramie, Wyoming. I am passionate about family history—with emphasis on the “story.” For the past several years I have been thinking about how I might document and share some of the stories I’ve discovered with extended family and others who might be interested. Serendipitously,* about a year ago I was contacted by Sarah Rogers, a family history researcher who lives in England. Sarah, who is a nurse and trained at the London Hospital like my Great Grand Aunt, Florence Mary Yemm, had purchased Florence’s WWI medals. Sarah was researching Aunt Flo’s family history for an article she was writing for a website dedicated to nursing history in Great Britain. Sarah regularly publishes her work on that website, and she has also created websites of her own to share her research interests. The seed was planted! My Aunt Flo was a perfect first candidate for this project for several reasons. She lived a long life filled with many interesting personal and historical experiences. I had enough photographs and memorabilia that belonged to her to make an interesting website. Her experiences, while unique to her, were shared by many of her generation. I was able to find a good deal of information about the places where she spent time before she immigrated to American in 1949: the Forest of Dean, London, and her WWI duty posts of Malta, Salonika, and Taranto. She was larger than life--a "supercalifragilisticexpialidocious" presence in our family! We have many first-hand memories as well as rich stories passed down about particular treasures and memorable events (though we can all sing the family historian’s lament that we wished we had asked more questions and listened more intently when she was alive).
I consider this website a work in progress and I welcome your comments and feedback. If you have information, stories, or photos to share, or would just like to say hello, you can contact me through the form below. In any case, I hope you enjoy reading about Aunt Flo!
With warmest regards to all who are here,
Terri

*I have discovered that “serendipity” shows up often in genealogy and family history research. I believe our ancestors walk with us and are pleased to be remembered and honored, stepping in now and again to give a helping hand.
